New Balance 1012 Motion Control Running Shoe Review

The Green Girl has nothing but positive things to say about New Balance 1012 motion control shoes.

Prior to badly spraining my ankle in January of 2009, I had great success with New Balance stability shoes. I wore New Balance 857's, 858's, and 859's

Unfortunately, that injury resulted in posterior tibial tendonitis. For months, I was forced to walk on the side of my foot to avoid excruciating arch pain.

I can say with certainty that it was a combination of the exercises for posterior tibial tendonitis, taping my arch, orthotics, and my New Balance 1012's that enabled me to run again.

The 1012's were the ideal solution to the New Balance 1123's. The 1123's offered the appropriate level of support but the the high heel counter and flimsy tongue design were annoyances.

The 1012 is a very stable shoe. It's bulky - but not as bulky as the 1123. It has a generous toe bed which is perfect for my wide feet. The heel counter is lower so the achilles notch doesn't irritate my ankle.

I don't know what I would have done without my 1012's. They have held up my arches through thick and thin.

  1. I am just now appreciating how important a good pair of shoes can be. I wore the complete wrong shoe for my stride for a year! Yikes! No wonder I had hip and heel pain. That is great that you found a pair of shoes that work for you.

  2. I used to wear the discontinued 1011's, which were very supportive - the only drawback I found with them was they were very heavy. But great shoes!

  3. It is such a great feeling when you find a good pair of shoes, because it is so hard to do. I need a new pair of running shoes and I keep putting it off for this exact reason.

  5. My first running shoes were New Balance (I think they were also the 1011s - loved, but heavy). I was refitted on Saturday and while my right leg has gotten stronger, I'm pronating pretty heavily on the left so am now in a motion control shoe as well. Brooks Adrenaline GTS is what I took home. Glad to hear you're up and running again!

  6. Good review, do you have problems with the shoe "squeaking"? I realize that is a random question but it is known to happen with this shoe and especially the old 850. Glad you have a happy shoe!

  7. Having the correct running shoe for the way run is vital to the success and enjoyment of your running. You wouldn't do anything else with the wrong equipment and you should have the same attitude toward your running shoes. Here we explain why Motion Control running Shoes are ideal for runners with flat feet.
